Welkom op de website van de vakgroep Nieuwe Geschiedenis
De leden van de Vakgroep Nieuwe Geschiedenis benaderen de vroegmoderne periode (ca. 1500-1800) als een periode van breuklijnen en transformaties. We doen dat vanuit een veelheid aan invalshoeken: sociaal, economisch, demografisch, politiek, institutioneel, cultureel, wetenschapsfilosofisch... In het onderzoek wordt resoluut gekozen voor de lange termijn en een interdisciplinaire benadering (met inbreng van onder andere de economie, rechtsgeschiedenis, geschiedenis van de geneeskunde, literatuurgeschiedenis, kunstgeschiedenis en filosofie...). De focus ligt op de Zuidelijke Nederlanden, maar de perspectieven wisselen tussen het Europese vasteland en de overzeese gebieden, stad en platteland, overheid en onderdanen, elites en gewone mensen, groep en individu.
Welcome to the website of the Department of Early Modern History
The members of the Department study the early modern period (ca. 1500-1800) as a period of transitions and transformations. We do so from a variety of angles: social, economic, demographic, political, institutional, cultural, philosophical… We advocate a long term-view and an interdisciplinary approach (there are cross-overs with disciplines such as economics, the history of law, medicine, literature, art and philosophy…). Our focus is on the Southern Low Countries, but the perspectives vary between the European Continent and overseas, city and countryside, prince and subjects, elites and ordinary people, the group and the individual.
